As per Hindu beliefs Maa Saraswati the deity of learning, music and art was born on this day and thus to achieve wisdom and art from her people celebrate Basant Panchami as Saraswati Pooja. This day is very auspicious; people start new work, get married or start anything new on this day. Saraswati Puja is also a major Bengali festival that is celebrated in every household. Goddess Saraswati, the Goddess of education, creativity and music is worshipped on the day of Basant Pancami. Godess Saraswati is one of the daughters of Durga who symbolizes Education and Wisdom.

Vasant Panchami, also called Saraswati Puja in honor of the Hindu goddess Saraswati, is a festival that marks the preparation for the arrival of spring. Basant Panchami also marks the start of preparation for Holika and Holi, which take place forty days later. The Vasant Utsava (festival) on Panchami is celebrated forty days before spring, because any season's transition period is 40 days, and after that, the season comes into full bloom.
